Pyramid Power
BBy: Dave Freer and Eric Flint
Pyramid Power is the sequel to Pyramid Scheme, and for the most part just as fun and lighthearted as the first book. This one takes a look at Norse Mythology, and has fun playing with the underdogs there. It is very entertaining with the sort of humor you would expect if you read the first book. If you didn't read the first book I suggest you do so before finishing this review since I will probably be giving away some plot points to make my summary here make sense. If you haven't seen the review I did for that one yet check it out here: Pyramid Scheme. You have been warned.
Having read the first book and knowing what to expect and why some of the gods are acting the way they are I can't really find anything wrong with this book. Like I said earlier this is very similar to the first book but this time the heros visit the Norse Mythworlds ( because the Norse mythworld has the nine worlds in it.).
After successfully helping the Titans bring down the Krim(The aliens behind the pyramid) in the Greek Mythworld the heros from the first book escape back to our world alive and whole. They even manage to keep the government from nuking the pyramid which would have given it immense power and expanded its snatch range exponentially. The pyramid is still there but is largely inactive because people with the psychological profile it needs are not allowed into snatch range. This is a very stable stand off which should be able to be maintained for some time. Unfortunately some of the people snatched early on know too much for certain agencies of the US government to allow them to remain in the mythworlds, and at least one of them hasn't shown up dead yet. Excercising its authority, this agency decides to send in a team with the only experts to from the first book that they can force to go. The two paratroopers. When the rest of the gang hears of what has happened they, and some new additions, follow their friends back into the mythworlds. They find themselves not in Greece or Egypt, but in the Norse Mythworld. Luckily Jerry, the Professor of Mythology, and Liz, the biologist with the purse of doom, are good at landing on their feet, and quickly gain allies in defeating the Krim in this mythworld as well. Unfortunately for them the situation is a little bit different with the Norse gods because Odin is a master of assuming powers meant to destroy him, and not even the Krim can stand before his cunning. Odin merges with one of the Krim, and they become more powerful than either were apart. The question is can our hero's and their team of Norse underdogs(including Loki, Fenrir, Thor, and the world serpent) stop him before he ignites a Ragnarok that doesn't need to happen any more?
This book will appeal to the same audience as the first. Basically if you like science fiction or fantasy, and a good over the top adventure you will enjoy this story.
